Digestion
Astringent for diarrhoea and inflammatory problems such as gastritis, colitis and gastroenteritis.
Urinary system
Cools heat and inflammation and relieves cystitis.
Reproductive system
Astringent and anti-inflammatory for heavy, painful and irregular periods, prolonged bleeding due to fibroids or during menopause.
Used to promote fertility.
Toning for weak pelvic floor muscles, helps prevent
miscarriage and good for treating prolapse.
Used to aid contractions during childbirth, speed recovery and regulate hormones and strengthen muscles after miscarriage and childbirth. Taken a few days prior to birth helps prevent post-partum bleeding.
Cooling and balancing remedy during menopause.
For fibroids, genito-urinary infections, endometriosis and pelvic inflammatory disease.
Externally
Astringent fresh root/leaves stop bleeding and promote healing.
Gargle/mouthwash used for mouth ulcers and sores, sore throats and laryngitis.
Lotion used for skin problems such as inflamed cuts and abrasions, pimples or rashes; eyewash for conjunctivitis.
Douche used for vaginal irritation and infections such as candida and after- aitibiotic treatment for infection such as trichomonas, when the vaginal flora has been disturbed.
CAUTION
Avoid during pregnancy, except in the last few weeks.
